CPC FAIR Unveils New York AAPI Special Needs Survey Results

On April 18th, CPC Families Advocating for Individuals’ Rights (FAIR), a parent-led initiative that advocates for AAPI individuals living with developmental disabilities, announced the findings of the New York Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Special Needs Survey at the Queens Public Library in Flushing. CPC FAIR received 227 survey responses that shed light on the challenges faced by individuals with developmental disabilities and their caregivers. Among these challenges are obstacles to accessing homecare, transportation support, public assistance, and benefits.

CPC Hosts Natalie Leung of Teach for Hong Kong for Month-long Exchange Program

CPC hosted Natalie Leung, Co-Executive Director of Teach for Hong Kong, for a month-long experience from March to April. She gained insights into CPC’s diverse programs, including education initiatives, advocacy efforts, and development work. As part of the global Teach for All network spanning 60+ countries, "Teach for Hong Kong" aims to address the educational inequity caused by socioeconomic status.

Undo Poverty: Flushing Highlights Achievements

On April 3rd, the Undo Poverty: Flushing collaborative shared accomplishments and insights gained over the past four years. The group, which includes CPC, aimed to debunk stigmas of poverty in Flushing and identify pathways towards economic mobility. Since 2019, the coalition has worked with various community groups, launched an awareness campaign, and made a documentary film spotlighting stories of Flushing residents. Representatives from the offices of State Senator John Liu and City Council Member Sandra Ung also joined the event.

CPC Staff Testify in New York City's FY25 Preliminary Budget Hearings

CPC staff, including Carlyn Cowen, Chief Policy & Public Affairs Officer; Po Ling Ng, Associate Executive Director and Director of Open Door Older Adult Center; Meihua Yang, Entitlement Benefit Specialist; Erika Enchautegui, Provider Specialist for Early Childhood Learning and Wellness program; and Ashley Chen, Policy Analyst, advocated for various community needs during New York City's preliminary budget hearings in March. They urged investments in immigrant communities, senior services, healthcare access, childcare, and the swift implementation of cost-of-living adjustments and wage increases.
