CPC Hosts Pass the Mic Townhall: Invest in Our New York
On March 16th, CPC staff, community members and elected partners hosted a live discussion about why it is critical we pass the Invest in Our New York Act and invest in our communities. Speakers from CPC included Lois Lee, Shuping Deng, and Melody Yang. We were joined by dozens of community members and staff and the town hall has reached more than 1,100 views to date.
Thank you to State Senator Julia Salazar, Assembly Member Phara Souffrant Forrest, Assembly Member Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas, Assembly Member Ron Kim, and Assembly Member Marcela Mitaynes for joining CPC staff and community members and the Invest in Our NY campaign to discuss the urgent need to raise revenue and invest in our social services, especially during these challenging times.
Unemployment in New York's Asian American community has increased by 6,900% since the pandemic (the highest of any racial group), and 1 in 4 Asian American New Yorkers were already struggling with poverty before the pandemic. Human services nonprofit organizations have been providing relief and recovery for the past year, but this is not sustainable unless the State enhances funding for human services organizations to invest in our staff and community members.
