78 Human Services and Community-Based Organizations Call on Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins and Speaker Heastie to Pass NYHA This Session

CPC and Human Services Council organized a letter from 78 human services and community-based organizations in support of the New York Health Act. The bill has majority support in both houses, with one more day in session left for it to come to a vote on the floor. The organizations signing on urge the State to pass this bill by the end of session, guaranteeing healthcare for all New Yorkers. 

CPC Statement on Ending the 24-Hour Rule in NYS Home Care

The New York State legislative session ended on Friday, June 11th. While some critical pieces of legislation were passed, CPC and its subsidiary, the CPC Home Attendant Program Inc. (HAP), are disappointed that A3145 (Epstein) – the bill to end 24-hour shifts for home care workers and replace those live-in shifts with 12-hour split shifts – did not pass. It is an urgent priority to end this practice, and we are grateful to the long-time legislative champions and the seven new co-sponsors that signed in support of A3145 this session. We will continue building momentum around this important issue by advocating for change ahead of the next legislative session.

Our Community, Our Stories - CPC Inspires Beneficiaries to Give Back: Vanessa Chiu

CPC launched the "Our Community, Our Stories" campaign to share the personal stories of different community members directly impacted by CPC. Our sixth community story features Vanessa Chiu. Vanessa Chiu was first introduced to CPC through our afterschool programs. Her parents immigrated from Hong Kong and worked at garment factories. She recalled watching her parents at work, making games out of whatever she could, “trying not to get injured, get into too much trouble or be too much in the way,” she said.

CPC Congratulates Our Little Graduates
