CPC Holds 8th Annual Albany Day of Action
February 4, 2026
On February 4th, CPC convened over 200 staff, community members, and advocates for its 8th Annual Albany Day of Action, the organization’s largest advocacy event of the year. Through rallies and drop offs with elected officials at the state capitol, staff and community members amplified their voices and advanced CPC’s three key policy priorities: securing New York State funding for infrastructure universal childcare; passing the Protect, Invest, and Expand Food Security Package; and Investing $175 million in immigration legal services. Their efforts laid critical groundwork to address the community’s most pressing needs.

CPC Meets with NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection Commissioner to Advocate for AAPI Communities

On February 5th, CPC joined Council Member Alexa Avilés and community partners to meet with Commissioner Levine of the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection. Steve Mei, Director of CPC Brooklyn Community Services, noted that vulnerable AAPI community members are often targeted by bad actors when seeking essential services like immigration help, housing, and benefits access.

CPC and Citi Team Up to Teach Culture and Financial Literacy

On February 7th, CPC partnered with Citi's Chinatown branch to host a Lunar New Year celebration for more than two dozen children from CPC's School-Age Child Care Center at Chrystie Street and their families. The event focused on culture, creativity, and early financial education. Families enjoyed a communal story reading, an interactive activity exploring good and bad money habits, and an art competition inviting children to illustrate what "prosperity" means to them.

Beacon Community Center Students Celebrate Lunar New Year with Creative Arts

On February 13th, CPC Beacon Community Center at John J. Pershing Intermediate School 220 hosted a Lunar New Year celebration for students, where they enjoyed delicious food and spent meaningful time with friends and family. From origami designs to arts and crafts and 3D figures representing Lunar New Year traditions, students celebrated culture through their hands and imagination.

Flora Si Named to City & State NY's 2026 50 Over 50 List

CPC’s Immediate Past Board Chair, Flora Si, has been named to City & State NY's 2026 50 Over 50 list, which honors New York's most influential and accomplished leaders over the age of 50. She arrived in New York as a Chinese refugee from Cuba in 1966. Decades later, she brought her expertise and passion for community to the CPC Board, serving as Chair from 2021 through 2025. In addition to her leadership, Si is a certified public accountant and runs her own tax and accounting practice in Manhattan's Chinatown.

Open Door OAC Celebrates Lunar New Year and 53rd Anniversary with Commemorative Journal

On February 26th, CPC Open Door Older Adult Center (OAC) celebrated Lunar New Year and brought together community members, staff, and elected officials for a special event that honored the center’s rich history. A highlight of the celebration was the release of a commemorative journal, detailing the impact the center has made on older adults throughout its 53 years of service. The event also honored three leaders for their contributions to the community, namely, CPC co-founder Virginia Kee, Board Chair Chester P. Lee, and former NYC Department for the Aging Commissioner Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez.

CPC Nan Shan OAC Celebrates Lunar New Year with Over 500 Participants

On February 27th, CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center (OAC) brought together over 500 older adults, elected officials, and community leaders to celebrate Lunar New Year with traditional Cantonese dim sum and cultural performances. Elected officials joined the celebration, including Assemblymember Ron Kim, who presented a proclamation to CPC, along with representatives from the offices of Congressmember Grace Meng, State Senator Steve Chan, State Senator John Liu, Assemblymember Nily Rozic, and Council Member Sandra Ung.
