CPC Joins the Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies' Anniversary Celebration and State Lobby Day

On January 22nd and 23rd, Wayne Ho, President & CEO of CPC, joined the Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies (COFCCA)'s 50th anniversary celebration as their MC and the subsequent State Lobby Day in Albany. Wayne is also a Board Member of COFCCA, which represents over 100 member agencies involved in child welfare, including CPC. He and approximately 100 advocates met with over 50 state legislators to advocate for increased investments in child welfare services and the child welfare workforce as outlined in the #JustPay campaign.

CPC Queens Special Needs Hosts Winter Festival

On January 20th, CPC's Queens Special Needs team organized a Winter Festival in Flushing that brought together more than 400 families for a day filled with entertainment and support. The event featured fun activities such as painting, paper arts, karaoke, and games. In addition to the festive activities, it served as a platform to provide participating families with information on available resources, language assistance, and guidance.

On January 18th, The World published an article about the housing challenges faced by the older Chinese American community in New York City, particularly in finding affordable housing in gentrifying areas like Chinatown. Many older adults, living on fixed incomes, struggle with rising rents. The article featured CPC Open Door and Nan Shan Older Adult Centers in providing essential services and assistance to address these challenges.

On January 16th, the Governor released New York State’s $223 billion FY25 Executive Budget, and the Mayor released New York City’s $109.4 billion preliminary budget. CPC is grateful for the critical investments and restorations made in these budgets. We urge both the Governor and the Mayor to ensure that the needs of all New Yorkers, especially Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI), low-income, and immigrant communities, are meaningfully addressed in their respective budgets.

On January 17th, Wayne Ho, CPC President and CEO, joined the Coalition for Asian American Children + Families, the Chinese American Service League, and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene at a press conference and panel on Change InSight, a research initiative that reveals the unique issues in Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. He stressed the significance of this data for targeted outreach and potential advocacy initiatives and the importance of culturally relevant and language-accessible programming and services.

Nan Shan Older Adult Center Celebrates Laba Festival with Buddha Porridge

On January 17th, CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center received 300 servings of Laba porridge from the Buddha Light Association to celebrate the Laba Festival, a celebration held on the eighth day of the twelfth month in the Chinese calendar. Laba porridge, also known as "Buddha porridge", is a blend of eight vegetarian ingredients and is traditionally prepared by Buddhist temples and monasteries.

Childhood Development Services Brings Joy to Children with Toy Distribution

On January 6th, CPC's Childhood Development Services (CDS) distributed over 250 toys, books, and coats to children in celebration of Three Kings Day - a traditional Christian holiday honoring the visit of the three magi to the infant Jesus. This toy distribution event not only created memorable experiences for children but also strengthened a sense of community and unity among people from different backgrounds.

CPC Childhood Development Services Celebrates the Holidays

From early childhood education centers to school-age child care centers, the holiday spirit thrived as Santa Claus made visits and distributed gifts to children. They enjoyed making clay art and dancing to festive music during the winter celebrations. New York City Council Member Carlina Rivera, a former Little Star participant, visited the center and handed out gifts alongside Santa.
