CPC, alongside Part of the Solution and the Jewish Association Serving the Aging, has co-authored an op-ed shedding light on the escalating crisis of SNAP benefit theft in New York City and the urgent need for solutions to safeguard essential food assistance for vulnerable New Yorkers. The piece details how electronic skimming scams disproportionately harm low-income families and older adults, many of whom struggle to protect their benefits due to limited tech access or language barriers. The problem has worsened as federal reimbursements for stolen benefits have ended, leaving victims with no safety net.
