CPC's Queens AAPI Heritage Month Benefit Celebrates Community Leadership and Creates Pathways to Success
New York, NY – The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) hosted its annual Queens Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Benefit on May 28 at Terrace on the Park in Flushing. The gala was joined by over 400 philanthropic, corporate, government, and community leaders and celebrated growing leadership within the AAPI community and raised funds to support CPC’s programs serving 20,000 Queens residents.
“Tonight's celebration transcends recognition—we’re investing in the community in order to cultivate the next generation of AAPI leaders and to ensure community members reach their fullest potential. Behind every dollar raised lies a human story: an older adult enjoying a hot meal, an immigrant parent mastering English, or a first-generation student discovering career possibilities. We’re grateful to our honorees and supporters who believe in our mission and help us advance our community,” said Wayne Ho, President & CEO of CPC.
The evening’s program blended cultural celebration with community empowerment. It featured a lion dance performance, testimonials from Queens residents whose lives had been transformed through CPC's services, and a special performance by the Joyous String Ensemble. The musical group composed of young musicians who began playing together at age six, and had since appeared on Good Morning America, The Today Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Little Big Shots, and World's Got Talent.
"We are so excited to be acknowledging AAPI Heritage Month on CPC's 60th year anniversary here in the World's Borough and to highlight our community and our impact in Queens in this amazing space, Terrace on the Park, alongside our honorees tonight. AAPI history and culture are dynamic and rich, and we are so proud to be serving the diverse communities here and celebrating that for this year's benefit," said Mitch Wu, Director of CPC Queens Community Services.
This year’s honorees were Assemblymember Steven Raga, who represents the neighborhoods of Woodside, Elmhurst, East Elmhurst, Maspeth, and Jackson Heights, and NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, a community teaching hospital that provides high-quality care to residents across Queens and the greater New York metro area.
Founded in 1965, CPC is the nation’s largest Asian American social services organization. CPC has been serving Queens since the late 1970s, and has expanded programming in response to the emerging needs of the Queens community. In 2017, CPC opened a 25,000-square-foot, 11 stories multiservice multigenerational community center that provides seniors services, pre-k, multi-social services, college readiness, legal immigrant counseling, childcare services, services for families with special needs, adult literacy, and career training.
