CPC Co-Presents "The Cost of Living," A New Documentary About Poverty in Flushing
On September 27th, the Undo Poverty: Flushing collaborative and media agency F.Y. Eye presented "The Cost of Living," a new documentary film by Helena and Daniel Nalladurai (Sixty First Productions). The premiere screening and panel discussion with filmmakers and collaborative partners took place at Flushing Town Hall.
"The Cost of Living" is a rare and intimate glimpse into the lives of three extraordinary individuals and families who call the greater Flushing, Queens area their home as they navigate the turbulent waters of economic hardship and are confronted with the ever-increasing cost of living in their once-affordable neighborhood. The project is supported by a generous grant from the Robin Hood Foundation and other funding partners. '
Undo Poverty: Flushing is co-led by six community organizations who work collectively to advance mobility from poverty for individuals and families in Flushing. They include:
- Asian Americans for Equality
- The Child Center of NY
- Minkwon Center for Community Action
- Queens Public Library
- River Fund
- CPC
The campaign is part of a larger national initiative, Mobility Learning and Action Bets (LABs), that focuses on ending the cycle of poverty and increasing economic mobility in neighborhoods across the country.
