Schneps Media Honors Mary Cheng as a 2025 Power Woman of Manhattan

On December 3rd, Mary Cheng, Director of Childhood Development Services, was honored by Schneps Media as one of its 2025 Power Women of Manhattan. The award recognizes her leadership in education and her commitment to empowering the community. Her journey began as a young student in CPC’s programs, continued when she returned as a teacher, and now serves in her current role, overseeing five early childhood centers and eight school-age programs.

CPC and The City Tutors Co-Host Mentorship Event that Connects NYC’s Early-Career Talent with Green and Tech Leaders

On December 1st, CPC partnered with The City Tutors to co-host “Many Paths, One Future: Green + Tech,” a mentorship event designed to provide a platform for students and emerging professionals to learn directly from industry leaders. Participants engaged in meaningful, rotating small-group discussions with mentors from top-tier organizations, including Google, leading clean energy firms, tech-driven nonprofits, and data/AI and creative industry specialists. The event equipped participants with actionable insights on in-demand skills, industry trends, and concrete next steps, empowering them to pursue career paths they may have previously viewed as inaccessible.

CPC Honors Supporters and Community Partners at Appreciation Reception

On November 14th, CPC welcomed nearly 200 supporters, elected officials, and community partners to an Appreciation Reception at CPC One. The event celebrated our partnership and collective impact in strengthening the community and advancing our shared mission. A highlight of the evening was the recognition of the Undo Poverty: Flushing team as the recipient of the 2025 CPC Service Star Award. The award recognized their collaborative campaign with five other organizations to advance economic mobility and break down stigmas about poverty in Flushing.

CPC Races to Distribute Food to New Yorkers as Government Shutdown Halts SNAP Benefits

On November 11th, NY1 reported that the federal government shutdown has interrupted SNAP benefits for 1.8 million New Yorkers. In response, community organizations like CPC have scaled up emergency food distribution efforts to help families put food on the table. CPC organized a pop-up food distribution at CPC One within three days and provided fresh produce to more than 300 community members. The news segment featured interviews with Marilla Li, CPC Director of Programs, and Miss Wang, a resident of CPC Hong Ning Housing for the Elderly.
