CPC Represents Diversity and Unity During United Nations General Assembly Events
During the 2017 United Nations General Assembly, CPC was invited to represent the diverse communities we serve through participation in two events celebrating diversity and empowerment of all for social justice.
On September 20, 2017, CPC Project Reach staff Katherine Chambers was a featured speaker at WE Day UN. WE Day UN was hosted a Madison Square Garden with the purpose of bringing thousands of youth together to create positive impact in the world. Katherine spoke of her journey as a transgender individual and the importance of having a safe space for everyone to be who they are. It is with the support of her childhood friend and girlfriend where Katherine felt safe enough to be herself and explore a part of herself that she was not able to before. "If we actively think about what we can do—rather than what we can’t—we can have a very different world." said Katherine during her We Day UN speech.

CPC LEAD at High School For Dual Language and Asian Studies staff, Sachaly De Leon, was also recognized during the event by Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice Elizabeth Mary of York as an outstanding educator, playing a crucial role in implementing the We Scare Hunger Campaign with the participants of LEAD at High School For Dual Language and Asian Studies. They collected canned goods during the Halloween season, fighting hunger in our Chinatown community.
On September 21, 2017, students from CPC's Adult Literacy program participated in the International Day of Peace. Organized by the Institute for Economics and Peace and Outward Bound Peacebuilding, CPC and the New York State Office for New Americans participated in a giant ribbon activity celebrating the eight pillars of peace. CPC staff and Adult Literacy Program students participated in the ribbon activity, which was a symbolic display of our connection to one another as individuals and as communities.
