Workforce Literacy Program at City Hall

 More than 300 students, teachers, and supporters rallied for Adult Literacy programming at City Hall yesterday. The rally was organized by the New York City Coalition for Adult Literacy (NYCCAL), a coalition of community-based organizations, CUNY schools, and libraries that advocates on the city and state level for stability, increased funding, and ease of access to and for adult education and literacy services in NYC.

As a NYCCAL member, CPC's Adult Literacy Program participates in the rally each year. This year is of particular importance to our students as literacy programming through the City's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival Young Immigrant Literacy Program is slated to be cut by 68% in FY 2016. Literacy programs keep workers in their jobs and support them as they advance in the workforce. Increased literacy and English language skills also allow families to better manage their healthcare, communicate with their childrens' schools and teachers, and engage in their communities. CPC's Adult Literacy Program offers classes in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings for 475 students per year. For more information about registering for CPC's Adult Literacy Program, interested students may attend a Workforce Development Division Information Session on:
