CPC Participates in #JustPay Rally at City Hall

May
25

On May 25th, CPC joined other human service workers, elected officials, and supporters at City Hall to fight for a COLA for the human services sector. We hope that by rallying together the city will hear our call for a 5.4% COLA to uplift the workforce that is so essential to our communities.

Thank you to our worker speakers who shared their moving stories. We were motivated and encouraged by Karen Trinidad (JASA), Nilza Philips (Urban Pathways), Marlene Starace (Queens Community House), Akesha McGilvery (Urban Resource Institute), Lisa Lester (Project Renewal), and Moshe Canty (Center for Community Alternatives).

Thank you to our electeds who stood by our side to support a COLA for the sector. Thank you to Councilmembers Althea Stevens, Nantasha Williams, Tiffany Caban, Sandy Nurse, Kevin Riley, Julie Menin, Erik Bottcher, and Lincoln Restler.

Thank you to the sponsors of the rally: Chinese-American Planning Council, LiveOn NY, Supportive Housing Network of NY, and United Neighborhood Houses.

A big thank you to the HSC Board, who has helped HSC grow, but has also met the call to do more, make it bigger, make it louder, and make it more effective! Their leadership has been key to helping us chart a new path forward, along with the tireless HSC Staff of Na’ilah Amaru, Gloria Kim, Luis Saavedra, and Jason Wu.

A special thanks to our Organizing Committee who planned this successful rally: BronxWorks, Brooklyn Community Services, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, Chinese-American Planning Council, Good Shepherd Services, Heights and Hills, JASA, JCCA, NMIC, Northern Rivers, Project Renewal, Queens Community House, RiseBoro Community Partnership, SCO Family of Services, Sheltering Arms, Supportive Housing Network of NY, The Child Center of NY, The Children's Village, University Settlement, Urban Pathways, Violence Intervention Program, and Volunteers of America of Greater NY.

This was a crucial step towards a #COLA and #JustPay for all essential human services workers. We thank you for supporting this movement to end government sanctioned poverty wages for human services workers and fighting for a long overdue COLA to achieve equitable wages for the sector!
