Paralympian Rudy Garcia-Tolson Visits CPC Chrystie Street School-Age Child Care Center
Paralympian, paratriathlete, and motivational speaker Rudy Garcia-Tolson spent an afternoon with the kids at CPC Chrystie Street School-Age Child Care Center on December 11th. He shared his inspirational life story as a double above-knee amputee. He shared that while growing up, kids would say negative things such as, 'How can you swim? You have no legs. How can you run? You have no legs.' But in each situation, he would counter by saying, 'Yes, I can.' And he urged the kids to do likewise. Garcia-Tolson's story captured the attention of a hundred plus kids and teachers that were in the room. Afterwards, he invited the kids to see how his robot legs work and answered all of their questions.
Garcia-Tolson was accompanied by Esteban Jeffry, the program coordinator of Rising New York Road Runners, a youth program designed to develop movement skills in kids of all ages and abilities through a mix of running and fitness activities. Participants build confidence, gain motivation, and fuel their desire to stay active. Jeffry coordinated this special visit. This is the second time CPC Chrystie partnered with NYRR.
