CPC joined NYCCAL to Support Adult Literacy

On February 28th, CPC joined New York City Coalition for Adult Literacy (NYCCAL) State Advocacy Day to restore $7.8 million for Adult Literacy Education (ALE) to keep our programs whole! We also called for $15.6 million to support the Adult Literacy Education Stabilization and Enhancement Fund. NYCCAL members, teachers, and students met with over 30 State Representatives to discuss the importance of free, accessible, adult education classes for immigrant and low-income community members.

3.9 million New Yorkers with limited English proficiency or without a high school diploma need adult education. If we are serious about rebuilding our communities post-Covid, we need to invest! Thank you to all the elected officials who took the time to listen to our students talk about their dreams and aspirations which included achieving an HSE, pursuing secondary education, entering the workforce, supporting their families, and wanting to become a U.S. Citizen.

CPC Adult Literacy Program is funded by NYC's Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), and the NY State Office for New Americans (ONA). The program aims to provide the highest quality English instruction in a safe and welcoming environment.
