On October 14th, CPC Adult Literacy Director Jeff Lau worked with New York City Coalition for Adult Literacy and Council Member Menchaca's office to invite a student to tell their story at the New York City Council Immigration Committee and Youth Services Committee joint hearing. Lillian Kong, a CPC adult English literacy student, and Johnathan Eckbald and Jinhee Kim, both adult English literacy teachers at University Settlement, spoke at the meeting to advocate for support of resources like English instruction for our city's immigrants. Jeff also submitted written testimony.

Lillian Kong's testimony at the NYC Council Immigration Committee and Youth Services Committee joint hearing received praise from Council Member Carlos Menchaca, Council Member Debi Rose, and Council Member Margaret Chin for telling her story during the public hearing held on Zoom. We at CPC are proud of Lillian for submitting her testimony and speaking about her experience!
