CPC Unveils The Glow Foundation and WAC Lighting Classroom and the Sir Gordon & Lady Ivy Wu Garden
On August 15, 2018, CPC held an unveiling ceremony at the CPC Queens Community Center to introduce The Glow Foundation Classroom, WAC Lighting Classroom, and Sir Gordon Wu & Lady Ivy Wu Garden.
The unveiling ceremony included special guests such as Tai Wang, one of the founders of The Glow Foundation and WAC Lighting; William Tam representing Sir Gordon Wu & Lady Ivy Wu; Congresswoman Grace Meng; Assemblymember Nily Rozic; and representatives from the offices of Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Speaker of New York City Council Corey Johnson, and Council Member Peter Koo.
At the unveiling ceremony, CPC President and CEO Wayne Ho expressed CPC’s deepest gratitude to Tai & Tony Wang and Sir Gordon Wu & Lady Ivy Wu for their generosity and support. Mr. Ho said, “With unwavering endorsements from donors and friends of CPC, we will continue to fulfill our mission to advance our community.”
CPC Board Chair Veronica Tsang conveyed her heartfelt appreciation to Tai and Tony Wang for their generous contribution and commitment to the community. “I have witnessed their many acts of kindness and compassion for the greater good. It is this type of selfless giving which makes our community even stronger.” she said.
William Tam, CPC Board Secretary and CPC Home Attendant Program Board Chair, represented Sir Gordon Wu & Lady Ivy Wu as the Garden was unveiled. Sir Gordon Wu chairs Hopewell Holdings, one of Hong Kong’s largest builder of roads and tunnels and bridges. As successful businesspeople and generous philanthropists with a lifelong interest in education and wellness, they named the outdoor garden at CPC Queens Community Center, providing a connection with nature to promote healing for seniors as well as exercise and relaxation.
Community members from CPC Education & Career Services' Earn & Learn Program and Adult Literacy Program also spoke about the impact which the programs had on their lives. From help writing compelling college essays to get into Yale University to learning English to find a better job, the community members emphasized how CPC has impacted not only their lives but also the community.
