On November 5th, CPC joined the ribbon cutting and unveiling ceremony of the "Be Your Own Hero" mural at John J. Pershing Middle School in Brooklyn. This mural project is a partnership between CPC Beacon Community Center, Thrive Collective, Brooklyn Nets, and House of Slay. The mural was designed by artist Peach Tao who collaborated with students from PS 220’s CPC Beacon School program to develop the overall concept and bring to life their vision of what being a superhero meant to them and how to make the world a more beautiful place.

"With a wide range of superpowers responses from the students, and what they would do with the powers, I have thoroughly enjoyed designing this mural. I was also happy to see everyone got to dip their hands in the painting process and some students even sprinkled embellishments in their own style. We had a fun explosion of colors, and all the whimsical elements made it even more personal to the viewers. I’m happy to see it brought joy to the students and the community and thankful for everyone who has been supportive in their own way. That’s the most impactful moment for me," said artist Peach Tao.

"We are so grateful to partner with the Brooklyn Nets, House of Slay, and CPC at John Jay Pershing Middle School. The Brooklyn Nets are bringing their 10 Years in Brooklyn celebration to life through various community programs around youth basketball and murals this season. Philip Lim and his team at House of Slay embody the mural at John Jay Pershing Middle School’s invitation to 'Be Your Own Superhero.’ Thank you to CPC for integrating us seamlessly into the Beacon programs at the school," said Jeremy R. Del Rio, Esq., Executive Director at Thrive Collective.
