CPC Honored at NYS Comptroller's Annual Lunar New Year Celebration
On February 8, 2018, NY State Comptroller DiNapoli hosted his annual Lunar New Year Celebration. During the celebration, the Comptroller honored five individuals, including Wayne Ho, CPC President & CEO, who was recognized for his leadership and dedication to the nonprofit human service sector and Asian American community.
Mr. Ho graciously accepted the honor on behalf of CPC and our subsidiaries. During his acceptance speech, Mr. Ho said:
"At CPC, I am blessed to be a part of an organization that is 53 years old and has touched so many lives, and that's because of the leadership and commitment of our Board. That's also because of the amazing team that I work with everyday.
The Asian American community is the fastest growing in New York. 15% of New York City. 10% of New York State. Our community continues to get less than 2% of government dollars as well as less than 1% of philanthropic dollars, and that's how the work that CPC does becomes so amazing.
When I walk around New York City, not just in our community centers, I have individuals come up to me and say, the first time I ever went to a daycare program was at CPC. The first time I went to an after school program was at CPC. The first time I -- as someone living with HIV/AIDS, or having a family member with a developmental disability, or being LGBTQ -- was able to get services was because of CPC. The first time I had affordable housing, the first time I had public benefits, it's all because of CPC. The first time I had a meal delivered to me because I'm a home bound senior, the first time I could engage with other seniors, the first time I learned English, the first time I was able to get a job that would pay me something to make ends meet and support my family was because of CPC. That's an amazing accomplishment for an organization like ours, and that's why during the Lunar New Year it becomes so important for us to continue to work together.
As we move forward, CPC recently launched a new strategy called Advancing Our CommUNITY, and that's where we are expanding our programs to meet not just persistent needs in our community but emerging needs. Simultaneously we are developing the leadership and civic engagement of not just our staff but also all of our participants -- over 60,000 per year, from 25 countries, speaking 19 languages. That's the power of CPC.
