CPC Early Childhood Learning & Wellness Services' Family Child Care Network (FCCN) was honored for the opportunity to host a visit from the NYC Department of Education's (DOE) Division of Early Childhood Education's new Deputy Chancellor, Dr. Kara Ahmed, Maria Begg-Roberson, Senior Executive Director, Teaching and Learning, and Peggy Diercks, Chief Executive of ECE Learning and Partnerships, Tuesday, April 19th, 2022.

As part of this visit, Dr. Ahmed, Ms. Begg-Roberson, and Ms. Diercks visited two of our affiliated family child care providers, Xuebing Zhao Family Day Care and Myung Sim Yu Group Family Day Care, in Queens. During this visit, they saw the impressive work our affiliated providers are doing in early childhood as a Family Child Care provider under the NYC DOE, how the transition to being an affiliated provider is going, and how the NYC DOE can support them in the important work of providing quality education and care to our youngest learners.

After visiting our network providers, Dr. Ahmed, Ms. Begg-Roberson, and Ms. Diercks conducted a walk-through of the CPC Queens FCCN Network-Queens office and CPC Lois E. Lee Early Childhood Center. During the walk-through, Executive Network Director, Sumon Chin, shared the successes and challenges of being a new network. Dr. Ahmed shared her vision, goals, view of challenges and opportunities to build a comprehensive birth to five systems, inclusive of all modalities.

Additional discussion was held around salary parity for providers, Network staff, copay collection process from families, and other Network and family support. We want to thank Dr. Ahmed for taking her time in recognizing the field of Family Child Care and recognizing the importance of health, safety, and quality care for the children and families we serve.
