CPC and Meals for Unity Distribute 250 Meals to Flushing Families

New York, NY  As food prices and living expenses continue to strain Queens families, the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) has partnered with Meals for Unity to distribute 250 free meals at the "Spring into Giving " event on March 29th at the CPC Queens Community Center in Flushing.

Unlike traditional one-meal-per-person distributions, each family received up to four meals, including both meat-based and vegetarian options to ensure culturally appropriate and nutritious meals for the diverse Flushing community.

“It is a privilege to partner with Meals for Unity for the Spring into Giving meal distribution event. Since the pandemic, Meals for Unity has been a steadfast advocate in the fight against food insecurity throughout New York City. A warm, nutritious meal is more than sustenance. It brings comfort and creates moments of bonding. Yet, for many low-income families, food insecurity is a daily reality, forcing impossible choices between necessities like rent, utilities, or a hot meal. In neighborhoods like Flushing, where the poverty rate is 24% and the cost of living is 49% higher than the national average, CPC aims to support our immigrant and low-income families through this partnership with Meals for Unity," said Mitchel Wu, Director CPC Queens Community Services.

Founded in 2021 to address pandemic-driven food insecurity and hate crimes against Asian Americans, Meals for Unity has partnered with CPC since 2022, providing over 200 meals annually to community members.

“At Meals for Unity, we believe that food is not just nourishment — it’s a way to build connection and strengthen community. Through our continued partnership with CPC, we’re able to address food insecurity in a meaningful, sustained way, reaching those who need support most. Together, we’re not only distributing meals, but fostering community and belonging,” said Brian Pham, Co-founder of Meals for Unity.

This event is part of CPC Queens Community Services’ ongoing efforts to combat food insecurity and support families. Throughout the year, the center organizes regular meal distributions including the annual CPC Special Needs Picnic and meal partnerships with JP Morgan Chase.

In addition, the center also provides seniors services, pre-k, multi-social services, college readiness, legal immigrant counseling, childcare services, services for families with special needs, adult literacy, and career training.
