CPC Presents at Symposium on Supporting Immigrant Communities

On August 14th, Wayne Ho, CPC’s President & CEO, participated as a panelist in the symposium “60 Years of Community Action – Renewing Our Commitment to Ending Poverty in NYC,” hosted by the Department of Youth & Community Development at the United Nations.

During the panel, Wayne highlighted CPC’s role in empowering immigrant families by providing essential support and opportunities that promote self-sufficiency and well-being.

CPC, founded during the War on Poverty, the Civil Rights Movement, and the 1965 immigration reform, addresses the needs of immigrant families. The organization has since tackled poverty within the AAPI community, including immigrants, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ youth, through campaigns such as Undo Poverty: Flushing, a local initiative aimed at advancing mobility from poverty.

CPC views each community member as a partner in advocacy, not just a recipient of services, and prioritizes civic education and engagement to build stronger communities. The organization continues to collaborate with DYCD to empower youth and communities and advocates for better support for the AAPI community through fully funded services, fair wages for human services and home care workers, and collective advocacy for structural change.

Panelists at the symposium included representatives from government agencies and community organizations such as the New York Immigration Coalition, Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation, and Center for Family Life.
