Service Learning Initiative Visits Princeton University

On February 18th, community members from CPC's Service Learning Initiative toured Princeton University. Youth were excited about visiting an ivy league school and one of the premier universities in the country. Their excitement was further amplified knowing they were on the same campus that nurtured many prominent leaders including President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Michelle Obama. Led by Service Learning Coordinator Sujin Oh, the trip was a great opportunity for youth to gain another perspective on the college experience away from New York City.

Youth were provided with a personalized campus tour and explored the many academic buildings and facilities on campus. The tour guide– also a native New Yorker– provided an honest account of the academic environment, student life, and sense of community on campus. She spoke about Princeton's study abroad and international internship programs, and encouraged youth to consider studying abroad regardless of where they end up attending college. Youth also learned that due to the strength of their alumni involvement and support, Princeton offers generous, grant-based financial aid and an unparalleled college experience. Overall, attendees came away inspired and motivated.

"After the tour, my admiration for Princeton's vibrant opportunities grew stronger," said Vickie Li, a Finance major at Brooklyn Technical High School.

Lin Lin, a student at Midwood High School, remarked "I really loved the part when the tour guide spoke about student life at Princeton. It was a really fun and interesting trip!"
