Samuels Foundation Grant Supports Older Adult Wellness and Safe Housing at CPC Residences

Samuels Foundation Grant Supports Older Adult Wellness and Safe Housing at CPC Residences
New York, NY – The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) was recently awarded a $190,000 grant from The Fax Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation to provide safe and supportive resources for over 300 residents of two older adult affordable housing communities.
The project, Older Adult Health and Wellness Resource Link @ Norfolk Street, will connect our services at our existing Hong Ning Housing building at 50 Norfolk Street with our new Norfolk Senior Housing building at 64 Norfolk Street. The project will address the urgent need for both affordable housing and wraparound community services in Community District 3 which spans the Lower East Side and Chinatown, an area where CPC has been a social services provider for 58 years.
The project aims to provide holistic community programming at CPC’s two affordable housing residences in order to increase trusted connections and relationships between residents and their neighbors, tenants and building management, residents’ families and their caregivers/home health aides, as well as the broader community.
“We are pleased to announce our grant with the Chinese-American Planning Council and to support their work with older adults in Chinatown and the Lower East Side. These diverse communities will benefit from a housing model that brings critical services to their doorstep,” said Dr. Julio Urbina, VP and Director of the Healthy Aging Program at The Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation.
“This grant will support 300 older adults as they safely age in place through culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate health and wellness services. We are excited to partner with the Samuels Foundation on our shared commitment to measurably increase the quality of life of older adults in New York,” said Wayne Ho, President and CEO of the Chinese-American Planning Council.
CPC's two older adult housing buildings and CPC One, a new flagship headquarters and community center currently being built, are on the same block. CPC One will have onsite caseworkers specializing in various services and benefit supports for low-income seniors. Residents of both Hong Ning Housing and Norfolk Senior Housing buildings will have easy access to health and wellness resources, culturally responsive programs, and services offered by CPC. The Open Door and Chinatown Older Adult Centers, located within walking distance, will provide congregate meals, socialization opportunities, arts and cultural activities, events, and additional case management services.
