CPC Youth Hit the Slopes (and Visit Prestigious Colleges Too!)

Students may have been off from school during mid-winter recess, but CPC Youth Services never takes a break!

On February 17th, 29 youth participants and staff from CPC Queens went on a day trip to Shawenee Mountains in the Poconos.  Upon arrival, the youth (many of whom had never skiied or snowboarded prior to their visit) were given a group lesson before hitting the slopes on their own.

With conditions being ideal and the sun shining down on the mountain, everyone couldn't wait to get to the summit! Overall, the day was a huge success and the youth have already started talking about making a return trip.

On February 17th-18th, the Manhattan In-School Youth (ISY) Program went on an overnight college trip to Massachusetts and Connecticut.  Over 40 participants and staff attended, and despite the cold, wintery conditions, the youth really enjoyed their visit.  At Boston College, many of the participants were in awe of the architecture of the buildings on campus and remarked how the campus reminded them of scenes from the Harry Potter movies.

Following their tour of Boston College, the group visited downtown Boston to take in some local sites (including Quincy Market) and get a feel of the city.

The next day, the group visited Wesleyan University.  After enjoying lunch provided by the school, the participants received a private information session from the Dean of Admissions and a tour of campus.  The youth had a great time and were able to gain better insight regarding the different types of schools that they could apply to in the coming year.

And last but certainly not least, on February 16th, the Project Gateway College Access Program and CPC youth participants from the High School for Dual Language and Asian Studies took a joint trip to Yale University and Quinnipiac University.  At Yale, youth were provided with a history of the prestigious school, toured the campus, walked through the school's rare book and manuscript library, and ate lunch alongside current undergrads in the Commons dining hall.

At Quinnipiac, youth sat through a personalized info session, toured the open campus, visited dorm rooms, and had ample time for Q&A with the tour guides.  Yet another successful week of trips for CPC Youth Services!
