In Chinese culture, the 8th day of the new year is considered a very important day for agriculture. Good weather on this day is a sign of a year of good harvest. This year, Lunar New Year was on Saturday, January 25th, 2020, and CPC Brooklyn Community Services held our annual Lunar New Year Celebration on Saturday, February 1st, 2020, the 8th day of the new year.

Lunar New Year is a 15-day celebration of culture and traditions, deeply rooted in the importance of family and heritage. CPC Brooklyn Community Services focused our Lunar New Year Celebration on the rich heritage and traditions of Asian culture. This year is the Year of the Rat, the first animal in the zodiac cycle. Friends, family and community members from all around the neighborhood were able to stop by and enjoy the festivities. There were tons of giveaways, games and activities for everyone.

In addition to the traditional lion dance and various performances, there were family-friendly stage games, New Year riddles, and raffles. One of the highlights of our event was our Children's Traditional Outfit Contest. Numerous children participated and competed against one another to take home the grand prize of large mouse plushy and $150.

Thank you to all the community members who came out to celebrate Lunar New Year!
