Background: The Chinese-American Planning Council was founded in 1965 in response to the growing number of Asian immigrants in New York City. It has since become the largest nonprofit provider of social services for Asian Americans in the U.S., serving thousands of people daily through over 70 programs spread throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. CPC’s mission is to improve the quality of life of Chinese Americans in NYC by providing access to services, skills, and resources toward the goal of economic self-sufficiency and integration into the American mainstream.
General Duties:
Deliver supportive services to individuals who are infected with HIV/AIDS and link them to care. Educate and raise awareness about HIV related issues, including prevention, transmission, health disparities, and stigma/discrimination in the Chinese/Asian communities. Recruit high risk individuals for HIV/STD testing and participate in evidence based interventions.
Essential Job Function:
Assist HIV infected and high risk population to obtain necessary information, support and skills to access the medical system and other community resources.
Provide on-going analysis and assessment of clients’ situations through progress notes and assessment forms.
Translate English to Chinese and vice versa for clients and service providers on as needed basis.
Develop and maintain relationship with medical and social service providers to promote program visibility and client recruitment.
Record and maintain required documentation procedures and program reports.
Submission of reports and all required data entry.
Educate, distribute and promote condom usage with clients in the community.
Work with the Navigation and Retention Coordinator to recruit high risk clients (MSM, IDU, and high risk heterosexuals) to enroll in locally developed/CDC supported DEBI intervention.
Recruit targeted high risk population for HIV/STD testing.
Work with other program staff on special projects as assigned by the Director or Division Director.

Skills, Education, and Experience:
Bachelor degree in social work or human service related field
Working experience with following population is a plus: HIV infected/affected individuals in the Chinese/Asian communities, MSM and sex workers.
Must be fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English
Strong interest in educating the community on HIV/AIDS services
Ability to work in a team setting
Ability to cope with high level of demand and daily stresses of clients
Excellent written, interpersonal and organizational skills
Compensation:
Commensurate with experience
