Education Director

Started in 1965, the mission of the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) is to serve the Chinese-American, immigrant and low-income communities in New York City by providing services, skills and resources towards economic self-sufficiency. Our vision is to be the model service and leadership development organization.

 

Program Description:

The Jacob Riis Early Childhood Center serves infants from ages 6 months to young children up to 5 years old. Located on the Lower East Side, within a New York City Housing Authority building, the Jacob Riis Early Childhood Center works with a wide range of families and is a unique and innovative program. The Jacob Riis Early Childhood Center is one of the few centers in the community that has an infant center.

 

Position Title: Education Director

Location: 108 Avenue D New York, NY 10009

Schedule: Full Time 38 hours per week

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

The Director is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the childhood center, including supervising, training, hiring a team of committed staff. The Director is expected to lead by example and maintain a positive, enjoyable environment. The Director is expected to lead a team of 10-15 employees. The Director will report to the Early Childhood Director.

Overseeing all aspects center operations inclusive of classroom, staffing, facilities, meals preparations

Ensure compliance with licensing, permit as regulated by NYC Department of Health and FDNY safety regulations

Create and develop strong parent and staff relationships
Ensure that required classroom group sizes and ratios, attendance records, operational procedures are in compliance of government regulations at all times

Oversee the staff trainings and professional development as required, ensure regular staff meetings are held
Maintaining relationships with parents, funding sources and external agencies

Conduct enrollment interviews with parents, ensure registration procedures, including tuition fees are collected
Adhere to all state and local educational and licensing requirements, ensure center is in compliance to all government regulations as well as internal agency protocols are followed

Ensure all reporting and records are properly maintained and submitted

 

 

Qualifications and Skills

Master Degree in Early Childhood required

New York State Teaching Certification in Nursery – 6, K – 6, Birth – 2 or Special Education is required

Minimum of 2 years teaching in an Early Childhood setting required
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Exhibit enthusiasm and a love for working with children
Prior knowledge of Quality Stars, NAEYC, PAS, CLASS and Creative Curriculum preferred

 

Compensation:

Compensation as determined by Council of Supervisors and Administrator Union guidelines
